Don't be depressed, that first.

Years ago I attempted to write a tutorial on how to make dub with computers. I never came to work further on the thing and especially in this time, for me, I just don't really feel like I have the energy and the will to continue it any time soon. Too many things that need my attention, among which is my own need for some rest which I am taking as well.

Also, I'm getting a bit old and stuck with my own way of producing things. I am not really satisfied anymore with my sound and thus I know that when I will continue to produce music I want to have a different sound and a different way of creating/recording it as well. In my "current" production process I even use one piece of software that was released in 1996 so that's quite a while back already. In itself this ain't wrong, by the way. Why fix a thing that's not broken?

When I started making Dub with computers, even Windows wasn't obvious. I used a thing called Voyetra, later came Cakewalk, then Reason. However, I did know what I wanted before I started to work with the Voyetra software (it came on floppy lol). I did create my own tunes, pressed the record button on my cassette tape, used two soundcards and a tape recorder which I used as an echo machine. I have probably hundreds of cassette tapes from that time (late 80's early 90's). The sound is really cheap, so I could never release the material. I just see it as my personal musical history documented.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that you need to have a concept in your head and software is just one of several tools to "materialize" the concept into something audible.

Still, the best way to play with music and sounds and stuff in my idea would be loop software even though I could not really give you a tip as to which software would be good. Anyway maybe take a look at that unfinished tutorial, it might give you an idea....
